Feeding Programs

A Glimmer of Hope

Out of desperation, the family of 3-year-old twins Albert and Simpue fled from the war and famine of Mozambique to a refugee camp in the South African city of Malelane. They hoped to find a better life. Instead, they found unemployment, disease and death.

Within just a few years, the twins mother and father died, leaving them completely alone.

A Glimmer of Hope in This Bleak Place
This story is played out in the Malelane refugee camp over and over again. AIDS and malaria kill hundreds of people, leaving children hungry and uneducated. Over 450 children live in the refugee camp. Many more are on the way.

In this hopeless place of disease and death is an oasis called the Sivulindela Community Care Center. This center—built and fully funded by Joyce Meyer Ministries—feeds and educates children, gives medical and vision care to families, and teaches people how to grow vegetable gardens for food.

Today, because of your generous support, Albert and Simpue are alive and no longer alone. Here at our Hope Center in Malelane, they are taught, fed, loved and allowed to be the rambunctious 3 year olds they are meant to be.

We now have a total of 3 feeding sites in South Africa, including another new Hope Center in Oakley. All together, we reach more than 300 children a day and serve more than 7,500 meals a month. But that’s not all.

Expanding Our Efforts
Did you know that for just $6 a month, we can feed, educate and share the Gospel with a child? That’s only 23 cents a day. That’s one of the reasons we are so passionate about expanding our efforts. In fact, in 2007, we provided more than 11.1 million meals to the poor and hungry around the globe. For instance:

“Our partners make it possible for us to provide daily food and vital medicines to more than 200 families in this nation,” says Dan Meyer, CEO of U.S. Operations. “These families average 6 people in each, made up of men, women and children.

“We’ve seen several children who were only a matter of weeks away from death. The good news is that because they have recently become a part of one of our sponsored feeding programs in this area, they are going to have a second shot at life.”

Last-Ditch Effort to Save Her Daughter
When her mother brought 5-year-old Abeba to one of our feeding centers, Abeba’s legs and arms were swollen, and her feet looked square and tall—all signs that she was dying of starvation. This was her mother’s last-ditch effort.

Fortunately, through your support, we gave Abeba’s mother enough food to feed her entire family.

And this is just one of the many feedings sites that we support around the world—sites that are literally saving the lives of children who are poor…children who are hungry…children like Abeba—all because of you. Together we can feed the hungry and save a life.
